Let’s be brutally honest, when you hear someone on a TV advertisement praising something and smiling as though world peace has been declared over for good, you immediately think that they must have been paid to say that and be that happy. And you’d be right 90% of the time, of course, because that’s the way it works, sadly. But that isn’t the rule, whatever you might think, because not everyone needs to pay people to say good things…there really are a few companies out there who have good products that people really do like. I know…you’re now probably thinking that I am making this up and couldn’t care less about saving energy. While I have to admit that I am not absolutely obsessed with it, I also have to admit that I do care enough to try and reduce my carbon footprint. Latent Semantic Indexing is an indexing method that uses Singular Value Decomposition. What this means is that the most common words and the contents of a webpage are identified as keywords in the search engine. The word ‘latent’ means something that is not visible. The word ‘semantic’ refers to the meaning of the word or a language. And the word ‘indexing’ refers to the identification of the meaning of the document which is suitable for the search engine. It searches for the synonyms of the title for example, if the title is “laptop”, the search engine would find words relating to this subject, i.e. “computers”, “Hp”, “Acer”, “laptop repairs”. If the title was “Cosmetic Surgery”, it would find words like “augmentation"and “Liposuction surgery“.

Many sites have been delisted by Google as being of little use to the visitor as the change of keyword was frequent. Thus many internet marketers saw their income heading towards zero overnight, and this change can be traced back to time that Latent Semantic Indexing was introduced. Even the words which are bolded or italicized are given more importance.

When a search keyword is entered, the websites that the search engines pull up are the most visited sites and account for the most of the sales online. When Google introduced Adsense it became more evident to entrepreneurs that lot of money could be made by creating web pages especially designed to display Adsense ads. Now things have changed.

If you have used a good keyword technique or even if you have included a few secondary keywords, the rest of the content should have synonyms littered throughout it to convince the search engines. When a search is done of the Latent Semantic Database similar values that it has worked out for every word is looked for by the search engine, it then comes up with the related documents that are appropriate for the query. LSI doesn’t need a perfect match, it always returns in related documents. Latent Semantic Indexing is good in keeping content relevant to the topic and also helps website owners produce quality materials.

When you are driving down the highway and you see a huge billboard for a great chicken dinner for only a dollar two miles up the road you get excited. You get about a quarter of a mile closer and see another sign for the dinner but this time it show pie too. You get more excited. Every quarter mile you get closer you see different signs all directing you to this one restaurant for that one chicken dinner. You get off on the exit, go to the restaurant, and get that chicken dinner.

SEO techniques work like the billboard did on the highway only on the internet. They direct people to certain sites. Search Engine Optimization uses different keywords such as green bum bag or stop hair loss to point people in your sites direction. The billboard kept saying chicken dinner because the restaurant owner knew people driving down the highway would be hungry. They would want good food that was not too expensive. Everyone wants to find a good deal on something they are looking for or need.

If you are selling high quality purses online and want to pull people in to buy them then one of your keywords would be high quality purses. You could also use handbags or clutches. Using different variations of keywords will help to broaden the potential of getting traffic to your site. By using the keywords you will be able to be part of the search results when someone searches for the types of purses you are selling. If you do a little research you will be able to find out which keywords will bring you the optimal amount of customers to your site and thus make you the most money possible. You will be able to sell many purses and have many satisfied customers if you can first get them to your site.

1. Make its presence known. Do what you need to do to make sure visitors to your website see and click on the reciprocal link. Put the in areas most frequently visited.

2. Keep it equally beneficial. Have some respect for fellow sites when it comes to swapping links. Don’t expect them to post your link on their main page, while your posting theirs at the bottom of a page that no one visits. Keep it equal, and keep it fair. Do unto others, as you would want them to do to you.

3. Promote each other. A lot of people do reciprocal links exchange, and never attend to it again. If you really want this to work, you need to promote your partners, and ensure they do the same for you. Most people pay no attention to links on other sites, unless you make them stand out. You can post a blog telling your loyal viewers that you discovered a really cool new site that is similar in content, and have them check it out. It would work wonders.

4. Stay in your market. As listed above, most people don’t care about links on your site unless you really promote it. And it would be even more ineffective to post links about a Job in Kuwait to a fashion site, or a tobacco site. Try to stay in your market, and expect others to do the same. If you run a film site, try to hook up with other film sites. If you run a clothing store, hook up with other stores that sell clothes, or matching accessories.

5. Spread the word. Much like the first change we need to make, this one is equally as simple and helpful. Know some people new to the web world? Tell them about reciprocal links, and help get them started. And not only will you have helped the community grow, you just set up one more link exchange with that person. It’s really that easy. And I must stress, it’s not as complicated or difficult as the title makes it seem.

You wake in the night suddenly remembering the words of your friend “You really do need a website if you want to sell anything”. And you turn the light on. There’s no paper or pen next to your bed so you drag yourself down the stairs in the dark (treading on something blunt but also sharp-feeling is optional) and get some. Then you start to pour your ideas out all over the paper. In the space of several hours you have it–the perfect website! You have the ideas, the colours, the graphics and the text! My God, you think, why didn’t I become a website designer? The world can’t do without me!

Only it did quite well without you before and you should NEVER have become a website designer (nor should you even remotely consider swapping jobs now…). That’s the horrible truth. Most people, sadly, just don’t know what they are doing when it comes to this specialist field. If you’re thinking of making an amazing website, get a pro to help you. Otherwise it’ll be a right old dogs dinner of a thing.

SEO and e-marketing is another thing. Search Engine Optimisation is critical where all facets of websites are concerned – from getting the right people to see it to begin with, to driving home enquiries which transform in to lucrative deals.

And don’t think you can learn about this and do it yourself. You can’t. But there are people who can, and all you have to do is type it in to Google to find a pro in your area.

I’d like to set the record straight on internet marketers: they are not bad people, not at all. I make this point because whenever I get in to a conversation with people who know nothing about the internet and marketing (yes, there are a frightening number of these people walking about, which brings to mind images of Night Of The Living Dead–), they seem to come out with a slew of negative comments. And don’t be thinking I can’t back this up. I can and I will back this up, so here I go:

People in internet marketing are some of the nicest people in the world. Honestly they are. Why so? Got that covered: it’s because they spend every day making the web work more effectively and enabling companies to get the most out of their online business. That’s it. Believe me, without internet marketers the web would be a mass of tangled cob-webs. Navigating it would be a total nightmare. Businesses would fold instantly and the aftermath would not be pretty.
Another thing: internet marketers are just doing a job, just like anyone, so don’t give them a hard time for that. If one happens to call you up out of the blue and you are not in the mood for talking with them about Corporate events London then just say so and hang up. There’s no need to be insulting to them or treat them in an inhumane way. Simply hang up and they will get the picture. They have homes to go to just like you.
That’s it, really. If you really have to go and get your frustration out then take up boxing. Even better, park illegally and then give a traffic warden hell.

SEO, or Search Engine Optimization as the technically-minded of our race like to call it, is very important. How important? Well, as important as vet insurance is to a really accident prone pet. Allow me to demonstrate (forget the pet thing though, this next bit has nothing to do with that):

Say a surfer had a great idea for selling surf-boards out of a little shop in town–OK–It was almost a good idea, only he was living in Slough at the time, and getting people to believe that they needed a surfboard was an issue. A big issue. So he devised a cunning way to cut costs and increase sales. Yes! he thought. I will sell my boards online, the world will have seen nothing like it!

So the next week, against the advice of your friends, Best Boards In Slough! Goes up. But hang on. He don’t get any hits, and eventually he grows old and becomes known as ‘that surfer dude who really should have sold his boards somewhere that wasn’t Slough–’

Now, had the old surfer dude employed awesome SEO methods (driving the right people to his business using keywords and complex internet things SEO people can do in their sleep) he might have been laughing all the way to the bank. Despite Slough being the worst location to sell surf boards ever—only second to the surface of the moon—he’d have done OK. Let’s not get carried away–He’d have still gone totally bankrupt, but he would have had some fun along the way–

That’s why SEO is important. You wouldn’t want to end up like that surfer dude would you?
